Former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and Colorado Gov. John Hickenloop announced Thursday morning that he will challenge Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colorado), who has held the seat since 2015.
In a campaign video, Hickenlooper said that Gardner is hurting the people of Colorado by working with President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky).

Hickenlooper was pressured by other Democrats into giving up the race for president and running for Senate where they feel he could be helpful in taking the GOP Senate majority led by Mitch McConnell.
Hickenlooper will have to beat the dozen of other Democrats running for their party’s nomination.
Hickenlooper enters this new race as a front runner, but he will still have to fight for support in the state. Colorado’s Democrats are largely liberal, and Hickenlooper is a moderate Democrat who urged other 2020 Democratic candidates to not lean too far left.
