Joe Biden ‘Has Already Begun’ Assembling White House Transition Team

Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden said Thursday he has begun assembling a White House transition team.

During a virtual fundraiser on Thursday, Biden was asked how he would fix departments left “without talent.”

“I promise you that has already begun,” Biden answered. “Sounds presumptuous. I don’t want to say we started thinking about it a month ago — we did — because that sounds like I was certain this was going to happen, that I would be the nominee. I don’t want it to sound like that, but it has to happen and that’s why the transition team is already being put together.”

He said the team would be composed of “first-rate” people and was not opposed to the possibility of announcing some Cabinet position prior to the election.

Biden also told donors he is considering raising certain White House offices to Cabinet-level positions, including the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the global health security pandemic office and a separate climate change focus, according to the report.

His comments come after the Democratic debate in March, during which he committed picking a female Vice President and promised his administration would be diverse, saying it “will look like the country.”
