JD Vance Says Violent Jan. 6 Protesters Shouldn’t Be Pardoned – But Does Trump Agree?

JD Vance broke his silence regarding the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, after President-elect Donald Trump said he would pardon the rioters on “day one” of his administration.

Over 1500 individuals were charged with crimes that took place during the riot that broke out after a protest by Trump supporters over the results of the 2020 election.

Vance said it would be a “simple” decision based on the nature of the charges against the individuals rioting, insisting that Trump will not give those who turned to violence a pardon.

Vance acknowledged that there are “grey areas” in some cases and assured the public that Trump would look into each case and work to resolve each as he sees fit, especially for those he believes had an “unfair trial.”

Trump has been less clear on the issue of pardons, suggesting on Monday that most rioters would be pardoned.

“I assure you, we care about people unjustly locked up,” Vance wrote on X. “Yes, that includes people provoked, and it includes people who got a garbage trial.”
