Jan. 6 Committee To Speak With Ginni Thomas, Clarence Thomas’ Wife

The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack will seek a meeting with Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, after obtaining emails she exchanged with former Trump lawyer John Eastman

Committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi) said on Thursday that the committee would invite Thomas to appear before them soon.

Eastman is known as the mastermind behind the plan to overturn the 2020 election results. The contents of the emails have not yet been released. The original reports said that the emails included private information about Supreme Court discussions surrounding the election results.

Eastman released a statement adamantly denying the claims.

“Whether or not those news accounts were true, I can categorically confirm that at no time did I discuss with Mrs. Thomas or Justice Thomas any matters pending or likely to come before the Court,” he wrote on the Substack email platform.

He added that the emails he exchanged with Thomas were to “give an update about election litigation to a group she met with periodically.”

Thomas told the right-leaning publication Daily Caller on Thursday afternoon that she was willing to testify.

“I can’t wait to clear up misconceptions,” she said. “I look forward to talking to them.”

Thomas made headlines earlier this year for text exchanges with then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, urging him to do what he could to keep President Donald Trump in office. She also attended the “Save the Steal” rally which preceded the Capitol riots. Thomas’ political advocacy has raised questions about Justice Thomas’ ability to rule on cases pertaining to the 2020 election and the Capitol riots, with some calling on him to recuse himself from certain cases. Both Thomas and Justice Thomas have said that they have separate opinions and that Justice Thomas does not discuss ongoing cases with his wife.
