Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds Declares A ‘Day of Prayer’ Over Coronavirus Pandemic

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) signed a proclamation that declared Thursday a statewide “Day of Prayer,” in light of the global coronavirus pandemic. She said she wanted to counter the “fear” and “anxiety” that has arisen over the crisis and instructed state residents to “unite in prayer.”

The plan coincides with the religious calendar –– Wednesday marked the start of the Jewish holiday Passover, and the Christian holiday Maundy kicked off Thursday. Organizers of the Iowa Prayer Breakfast also had slated Thursday for the 59th annual religious event. The celebration took place online due to the coronavirus.

Reynolds noted that America was founded on biblical Judeo-Christian principles and values. The governor moved on to salute first responders, medical care workers who are serving the nation during the pandemic.
