Following the recent Russian attacks on Ukraine, President Donald Trump criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin on his social media platform, Truth Social. In his post, Trump wrote: “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”
Russia Today, a Russian government-controlled organization, ridiculed Trump for his post, implying that Trump would go back on his words and post something contradictory the next day.
Last week, Russia and Ukraine held a 1,000-prisoner exchange. Soon after, Russia launched attacks against the country, which resulted in at least 12 deaths. Following the attacks, Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday, calling Putin “crazy.”
This marks a departure from how Trump had handled the Russia-Ukraine war. Previously, Trump had falsely accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of inciting the war. In 2022, Trump told The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show about his reaction to the Russian invasion: “I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful.”
