Jury selection has begun in Delaware for the federal case brought against Hunter Biden relating to gun charges.
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is facing three felony charges after lying on a federal form while purchasing a gun in 2018. On the form, Biden reported that he was not a drug user or addict despite his cocaine addiction at the time.
Special Counsel David Weiss, who was appointed U.S. attorney for Delaware by former President Donald Trump, brought the charges against Biden.
Biden possessed the gun for 11 days, then it was later discarded by his ex-wife, Hallie Biden. The prosecutors are expected to present evidence, including photos and videos from his devices, as well as excerpts from his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things, which detailed his struggle with drug addiction. Additionally, they will hear testimony from former wife Kathleen Buhle, former romantic partner, brother’s widow, Hallie Biden, and the FBI and DEA.

Judge Maryellen Norieka has excluded Dr. Elie Aoun, who was slated to testify about Biden’s drug abuse.
Additionally, Judge Norieka has declined to allow lawyers to admit into evidence a second version of the firearm purchase, as both documents show that Biden selected “no” to drug abuse.
A federal grand jury indicted Biden in September after a diversion agreement was reached for gun offenses, as well as a plea deal related to his misdemeanor tax charges.
He faces up to 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines if convicted on all counts.
As of 11:45 a.m. ET, 12 potential jurors had been excused, and many potential jurors answered yes when asked whether they believed Department of Justice and law enforcement probes were politically motivated.
In attendance are First Lady Jill Biden, half-sister Ashley Biden, wife Melissa Cohen Biden and Hollywood entertainment lawyer Kevin Morris.
President Biden was not in attendance and has kept his distance from the legal proceedings. However, he showed support for his son in a statement.
“Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery inspire us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean,” said Biden.
This trial is decisive and has led to arguments that Republicans are using Hunter Biden as a target for political attacks. Democrats have also pointed out that the prosecution disproves claims that the justice system is not evenhanded.
Biden is also facing nine separate federal tax charges in the central district of California, where he is charged with failing to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes.
