Hunter Biden’s Taxes Under Investigation By Federal Prosecutors

President-elect Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden announced Wednesday that federal prosecutors are currently investigating his taxes.

Hunter Biden said in a statement, “I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs.”

“I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors,” he added.

No further information about the nature of the probe was disclosed.

A CNN report said a probe is “examining multiple financial issues, including whether Hunter Biden and associates violated tax and money laundering laws in business dealings in foreign countries, principally China.”

According to CNN, the investigation was essentially put on pause during the lead-up to the election, as the Justice Department is required to avoid legal actions that could affect an election.

Hunter Biden became a frequent talking point for President Donald Trump, as he continued to push theories that he had improperly used his father’s role as Vice President in both Ukraine and China. Trump’s focus on digging up dirt on the President-elect’s son is what ultimately got him impeached by the House last December.

While Hunter Biden has had several endeavors abroad, there are potentially less nefarious reasons behind why his taxes are being looked into.

The Internal Revenue Service had a lien against both him and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle, totaling $112,805.09, until this past March. A separate lien was placed on Hunter Biden by the District of Columbia on July 9, for a total of nearly $453,890. Those owed taxes are reportedly from 2017 and 2018.
