The attorney for President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, called the recent indictment of his client all “politics.”
Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, attorney referred to Biden’s gun charges in an interview.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office has known about this for years. No charges. When they found out about it and made a deal,” Lowell told CNN. “What changed? Not the facts, not the law, but all the politics that have now come into play.”
Last week, Hunter was indicted on three counts that are connected to his alleged purchase of a firearm while abusing drugs in October 2018. Hunter addressed his battle with cocaine addiction in a book he wrote, Beautiful Things.

Lowell touched on multiple issues that will be brought up in Hunter’s defense, including questions about the constitutionality of the gun charges and the collapse of the plea deal that the president’s son originally made with prosecutors.
“The only change that has occurred between when they investigated and today is that the law changed,” Lowell stated, “but the law didn’t change in favor of a prosecution, the law changed against it because a couple of federal courts have found this gun charge to be unconstitutional.”
Biden’s attorney hinted at the possibility of having evidence that could complicate the case, but he didn’t expand further on the matter.
“The evidence will be presented when and if there is a trial,” said Lowell, “I think the case will be dismissed before trial.”
Hunter’s case has been pushed into the spotlight as Republicans push a narrative of a “corrupt” Biden family with the approach of the 2024 election. No evidence has been presented that ties the president to his son’s alleged crimes.
