A congregation of Trump supporters clad in MAGA gear gathered outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Sunday afternoon to cheer on President Donald Trump as he battles COVID-19.
Hundreds of Trump supporters brought flags, balloons, flowers and boomboxes blaring classic songs featured in Trump’s campaign rallies (including “YMCA” and “Proud to Be an American”) and came together to pray for the president. Trump responded to their outreach at first via Twitter, but after several hours of celebration outside, Trump emerged from his quarantine in a motorcade and waved to the crowds in a show of his appreciation for their support.
Most of those in the crowds of hundreds were elderly and not wearing a masks or social distancing. The virus that has been known to harm senior citizens the most severely.
Vendors sold MAGA merchandise, and the Trump campaign gifted pizzas to everyone in support. Trump supporters made friends with one another, as Maryland police officers had to barricade the crowds so that they did not overflow into the streets interrupting traffic.
