House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Religious Tone Is Off-Putting – Even To Some House Republicans

House Speaker Mike Johnson recently presented slides on the topic of keeping the majority in the House to fellow GOP representatives – but his heavily religious tone did not land with his audience.

Johnson advertised the content of his presentation as a plan to hold and grow the GOP majority in the House of Representatives in the upcoming November election but instead delivered something of a sermon.

He began discussing the decline of morality, religion and church membership in the United States, hinting that it is due to these factors that it has been difficult for the GOP to keep a lasting majority.

Johnson said that when people don’t have God in their lives, “the government will become their guide,” and quoted several different Bible verses throughout his presentation.

One House Republican reportedly described his presentation as “horrible.”

A different audience member close to Johnson said that the religious part of his presentation only occupied about a third of it and that the remaining content focused on polling, messaging and other political content.

Johnson has made no secret of his deep religious faith often suggesting that he is a Mose-like figure.
