Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma), with the support of the third-ranking House Republican Elise Stefanik (R-New York), is leading an effort to “expunge” former President Donald Trump‘s second impeachment.
Mullin argues that the impeachment over the former President’s involvement on January 6, 2021, “contains a subjective account of that which transpired at the Capitol on January 6, 2021” and “omits any discussion of the circumstances, unusual voting patterns, and voting anomalies of the 2020 Presidential election itself.”
Mullin, a former mixed martial arts fighter, was photographed attempting to barricade Capitol rioters from entering the House Chamber that day.
The resolution has garnered the support of 28 cosponsors.

The resolution won’t pass now with the Democrats having a majority in the House, but it still signals some House Republicans’ undying loyalty to the former President ahead of the 2024 election. Trump has not officially declared his candidacy, but he has long hinted that he is considering another bid for the White House.
This marks Mullin’s second effort to erase a Trump impeachment. He also moved to expunge Trump’s first House impeachment over seeking foreign interference.
The Congressman, who has represented Oklahoma in Congress since 2013, is now running for Senate to succeed retiring Sen. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma). Oklahoma primaries are slated to take place on June 28.
