Following a damning recording of a phone call from President Donald Trump
to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) on Saturday, House Reps. Ted Lieu (D-California) and Kathleen Rice (D-New York) have requested that FBI Director Christopher Wray launch a criminal investigation.
In the phone call, Trump requested Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes” for him in Georgia, where he lost to President-elect Joe Biden. Raffensperger refused the request on the call.
“As members of Congress and former prosecutors, we believe Donald Trump engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes,” stated Lieu and Rice in a letter on Monday. “We ask you to open an immediate criminal investigation into the president.”
Lieu and Rice believe that Trump broke broth Georgia and United States election fraud and solicitation election fraud laws.

“The evidence of election fraud by Mr. Trump is now in broad daylight,” the letter continued. “Given the more than ample factual predicate, we are making a criminal referral to you to open an investigation into Mr. Trump.”
Additionally, Senate Minority Whip Richard Durbin (D) called for a criminal investigation into the president yesterday.
“His disgraceful effort to intimidate an elected official into deliberately changing and misrepresenting the legally confirmed vote totals in his state strikes at the heart of our democracy and merits nothing less than a criminal investigation,” said Durbin.
