A Democratic-led House Committee has now access to six years of former President Donald Trump‘s tax returns, following a Supreme Court decision that authorized the release of the documents.
The Department of Treasury announced on Wednesday that it complied with the court’s decision and made the files available to the Ways and Means Committee chaired by Rep. Richard Neal, a Democrat from Massachusetts.
A Treasury spokesperson didn’t confirm if the committee’s members had access to the files yet.
The fight over Trump’s tax return dates back to 2019. The House panel argued that the files could be useful to inform potential legislation related to the IRS’s presidential audit program.
