Harris Favorability Increases 8% Since Last Week, New Poll Says

Vice President Kamala Harris has gained favorability amongst American adults following President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection campaign and endorse Harris.

An ABC News/Ipsos Poll that surveyed 1,200 adults showed that Harris has gained eight points in favorability with Americans since last week. She had a 35-point favorability rating, which jumped to 43 percent since she became the presumed Democratic nominee.

Harris’ unfavorability has also decreased from 46 percent to 42 percent of participants holding an unfavorable opinion of the vice president.

Biden also saw better favorability this week, jumping from 32 percent to 37 percent since he left the race. His favorability declined from 55 percent to 50 percent.

Former President Donald Trump gained a favorability boost following the assassination attempt against him earlier this month. His favorability grew from 31 percent to 40 percent following the shooting. Now, Trump sits at 36 percent favorability and 52 percent unfavorability.

The poll also reported that 88 percent of Democrats were either very excited or somewhat excited about Harris winning the party nomination. Independent voters reported that 49 percent were excited about Harris winning the nomination.

There has also been a surge in fundraising in the Democratic party since Harris became the nominee, with the party raising $200 million in the week since Biden ended his campaign. The favorable polling and fundraising is attributed to increased enthusiasm in the Democratic party in the past week.

A recent poll by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ reported that Harris’s favorability rating sits at 44.1 percent, and she had 41.9 percent favorability the day before Biden dropped from the election and endorsed her.

The positive polling for Harris reflects new enthusiasm in the Democratic party since she became the likely Democratic nominee ahead of the Democratic National Convention. The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19 through August 22 in Chicago.
