Harris Attacks Trump & Celebrates American Freedom In Debut Campaign Video

On Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris released her first campaign ad attacking former President Donald Trump and emphasizing American freedom, just one day after President Joe Biden addressed the nation about his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

The campaign video, titled We Choose Freedom, aired on Harris’s social media platforms, marking a key moment for her campaign and reinforcing her stance on critical issues such as abortion.

“In this election, we each face a question. What kind of country do we want to live in? There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos. Of fear. Of Hate,” she says, as images of Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) appear. “But us. We choose something different. We choose freedom.”

The ad, featuring Beyoncé’s song, “Freedom,” showcases Harris’ supporters and everyday Americans from diverse backgrounds while she outlines her vision of freedom under her administration.

“The freedom not just to get by, but get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body,” says Harris. “We chose a future where no child lives in poverty. Where we all can afford health care. Where no one is above the law.”

As Harris delivers the final line, the screen displays Trump’s mugshot and various newspaper headlines about his conviction and indictment.

Harris ends the ad with, “We believe in the promise of America and we are ready to fight for it. Because when we fight, we win. So join us.”

Although Biden withdrew from the presidential race less than a week ago, the Democratic Party has quickly united behind Harris as the new nominee.

Since Biden’s announcement on Sunday, Harris has already raised $126 million.

In a campaign memo, Harris’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, emphasized that Harris is in “a strong position to win,” noting her superior performance compared to Trump among black, Hispanic and young voters.

On Tuesday, Harris kicked off her campaign with a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she walked on stage to Beyoncé’s song “Freedom,” the same track featured in her new ad.

Harris’s campaign message sharply contrasts with that of her Republican opponent, who has labeled her as “radical” and criticized her on various issues.

Since announcing her presidential bid, Harris has faced widespread racist and misogynistic attacks from Republicans, who have described her as a “DEI candidate” – an acronym standing for “diversity, equity and inclusion” programs and often used to discredit people of color or women who rise to positions of power.

This week, an old video of Trump’s running mate, Vance, resurfaced, showing him disparaging Harris – who has two stepchildren – along with other top Democrats as “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made.”

Vance, who made the comments during a July 2021 appearance on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight while running for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat, said, “The entire future of Democrats is controlled by people without children.”
