Gov. Ron DeSantis Promises To End Funding For Covid-19 Vaccinations If He Is Elected To The White House

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida), a 2024 GOP presidential candidate, promised to cancel Covid-19 funding, if he is elected.

“Certainly, we’re not going to fund them,” DeSantis told ABC. “I think that the Biden administration is spending billions and billions of dollars on these. So they’ve done studies. They have not demonstrated the benefit of the boosters.”

Last month, President Joe Biden announced his decision to ask Congress for more funding for Covid-19 vaccinations.

“I signed off this morning on a proposal we have to present to the Congress a request for additional funding for a new vaccine that is necessary, that works,” Biden said.

DeSantis, who has expressed his opposition to vaccination mandates, doubts if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can be trusted. He has promised to hold the CDC “accountable” and stated that the agency did not prove that masks and vaccinations prevent the spread of COVID, labeling the studies to be “flimsy.”

“They would make representations which were not true. So the trust that’s been lost, I think has been incalculable, and one of the things that I said is when I came in we’re going to have a reckoning about all these Covid policies,” he continued, “We’re going to hold people accountable, who got it wrong.”

The newest booster was released last week after the approval of the Food and Drug Administration. The booster offers protection against EG.5, the most recent COVID strand. Since the strand began circulating, it has been responsible for 20.6% of COVID cases in the United States, according to the CDC.
