State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-New York) has formally called for the resignation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) after he allegedly covered up nursing home COVID-19 deaths in his state and became the center of three sexual harassment complaints.
“New York is still in the midst of this pandemic and is still facing the societal, health and economic impacts of it. We need to govern without daily distraction. For the good of the state Governor Cuomo must resign,” Stewart-Collins said in a statement on Sunday.
“We have more allegations about sexual harassment, a toxic work environment, the loss of credibility surrounding the COVID nursing home data and questions surrounding the construction of a major infrastructure project,” the majority leader continued.
Cuomo has said multiple times that he has no plans to resign and that judgement of him ought to be withheld until the Attorney General Letitia James‘ internal probe of the allegations is complete.

“There are some legislators who suggest that I resign because of accusations that made – are made against me. I was elected by the people of the state. I wasn’t elected by politicians. I’m not going to resign because of allegations,” Cuomo said hours before Stewart-Collins asked for his resignation.
Focus now turns to Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York), who have made almost no public comment about Gov. Cuomo and his current scandals.
