Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker suggested in a speech earlier this month that evolution could not be real because apes still exist.
“At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not?” Walker, a former President Donald Trump-endorsed candidate, said in an on-stage interview at Sugar Hill Church in Sugar Hill, Georgia.
“That’s what’s interesting, though. If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it,” Walker added, expressing his belief that God created humans in their current form.
Walker seemed to be unclear on the theory of evolution that argues that while humans and apes share a common ancestor, there are multiple branches of decent, each deriving traits from their respective environments and circumstances making it possible for apes and humans to co-exist.
