GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville Suggests Delaying Biden Inauguration
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, (R-Alabama) who has been in office for less than a month, suggested that the upcoming inauguration of Joe Biden should be delayed because of COVID-19.
Tuberville’s suggestion would violate the 20th amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that “the terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January.” This is the same amendment that set the date of his own swearing in ceremony on the 3rd of January.
Tuberville, a former football coach, recently worried reporters when he could not name the three branches of government. “You know, the House, the Senate, and the executive,” he said. The senator also claimed in that same interview that World War II was fought over socialism saying, “I tell people, my dad fought 76 years ago in Europe to free Europe of socialism.” World War II was fought over fascism not socialism.
Tuberville has been called a Trump loyalist because of harsh rhetoric on the campaign trail, as well as from his unwillingness to certify the Electoral College results.
