GOP Sen. Mike Lee Slammed For Mocking Minnesota Lawmaker Shootings & Spreading Misinformation On Social Media

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is facing criticism after mocking the recent deadly shootings targeting Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota through a series of social media posts.

While the main suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, was on the run after fatally shooting state Rep. Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband and wounding state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife, Lee took to social media.

One of Lee’s posts suggested Boelter was a Marxist, despite reports claiming he is a far-right conservative and active supporter of President Donald Trump. It was also reported that Boelter was carrying a list possibly targeting “many lawmakers and other officials,” all of whom were Democrats.

Another post featured an image of the suspect at one of the victims’ doors before one of the shootings, beside a headshot of Boelter with the caption “Nightmare on Waltz Street,” a reference to Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minnesota).

In response to the devastating shootings, Walz deemed the incident “an act of targeted political violence.”

Following the posts, Lee was heavily criticized across social media, with many calling his behavior “disgusting” and “unacceptable.”

Michael Steele, former RNC chairman and current host for MSNBC, called out Lee for his alleged lack of maturity.

“Grow the h*** up,” wrote Steele on social media.

Others criticized Lee’s social media comments as heartless and inhumane.

“When there’s political violence in Western democracies, it’s traditionally treated as a somber event for everyone to come together. That’s disappeared. The victims were gunned down just over a day ago, and a U.S. senator is mocking the event and hinting at a deranged conspiracy,” wrote one user on X.

Trump said Tuesday that he had no intention of speaking to Walz following the shootings.

“I think the governor of Minnesota is so whacked out. I’m not calling,” said Trump. “The guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a mess. So, you know, I could be nice and call, but why waste time?”

Police captured Boelter on Sunday and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Lee recently made headlines for introducing a bill to ban pornography.
