GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Claims Democrats Are ‘Killing’ Republicans

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) claimed during a rally hosted by former President Donald Trump that Democrats “started the killings” of Republicans. She cited misleading information about cases of violence committed against allegedly conservative victims to support her claims.

“I am not going to mince words with you all. Democrats want Republicans dead and they have already started the killings,” Greene said on Saturday in Michigan.

The congresswoman, known for spreading conspiracies theories, mentioned two crimes to back her allegations.

First, she cited a case of a 18-year-old young man ran over by a Democrat driver. According to her, the attacker “confessed to killing the teenager simply because he was a Republican.”

Greene apparently referred to an episode happened late September in North Dakota where Shannon Brandt, a 41-year-old man, fatally struck 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson with his SUV. Brandt claimed the victim was part of a “Republican extremist group” and that they were “coming to get him.” He was released on $50,000 bail.

Police police said, however, that there’s “no evidence” supporting that the crime was politically motivated.

“We have uncovered no evidence to support Mr. Brandt’s claim on the 911 call he made that Cayler Ellingson is a Republican extremist, nor that this incident involved politics,” North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind told Fox News. “This is a terrible tragedy for the Ellingson family. We continue to investigate what led up to the incident, the crash itself and the claim made by Brandt. But, at this time there has been no evidence to corroborate Brandt’s statement.”

Brandt’s neighbors interviewed by Fox News noted that he has a historical of mental health conditions and that they believe his claims that Ellingson was part of a “Republican extremist group” was an excuse for what he allegedly did.

Greene also cited a case of a 83-year old woman shot in the back in Michigan. According to the congresswoman, the victim was shot in the back for being against abortion and “advocating for the unborn.”

The woman shot is Joan Jacobson, a volunteer with a pro-life organization called Right to Life, who survived the wounds. On September 20, she was campaigning door to door against a proposal that would overturn Michigan’s abortion law and entered in a dispute with Sharon Harvey, who supports abortion rights.

According to Harvey, Jacobson refused to accept her decision and wouldn’t leave her doorstep, she told local news. The argument got louder and her husband, Richard Harvey, intervened and shot the volunteer in the shoulder.

Harvey claims it was an accident. He was charged last week with felonious assault, careless discharge of a gun causing injury, and reckless use of a firearm.

Jacobson disputes that version and said the was peaceful and she was already leaving when Harvey fired her.

Greene’s remarks on Saturday were criticized for escalating a polarizing environment between Democrats and Republicans. The Republican Accountability Project tweeted: “This rhetoric is dangerous and unacceptable.”

Other users pointed out to one interview in which she used earlier this year a controversial phrase “murder is legal” to support the Second Amendment.
