GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert Led ‘Large Group’ Tour Of Capitol Building Before Riots

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tennessee) told CNN in an interview that he saw Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) giving a tour of the Capitol building to a large group of people days before rioters stormed the same building. Public tours have been banned at the Capitol since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Gun-enthusiast Boebert is an outspoken ally of former President Donald Trump.

“We were walking in a tunnel and we saw her and commented who she was and she had a large group with her,” Cohen told CNN. “Now, whether these people were people that were involved in the insurrection or not, I do not know.”

Boebert responded to the representative’s claims saying, “I have never given a tour of the U.S. Capitol to any outside group … I brought my family to the Capitol on January 2nd for a tour and on the 3rd for pictures to commemorate the day I was sworn in as a Member of the U.S. Congress. Again, the only people I have ever had in the Capitol with me during the 117th Congress are my young children, husband, mom, aunt and uncle.”

The oldest of Boebert’s child is 15 years old.

Cohen’s initial claims have been echoed by Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Kentucky), who also saw Boebert leading the large group.

Boebert has been the center of multiple controversies since the Capitol riots on January 6. The representative refused to have her bag searched by Capitol police when it set off metal detectors last week, suggesting that she was carrying a firearm. Boebert’s communication director, Ben Goldey, resigned two weeks after he began work, citing in his resignation letter his discomfort with Boebert’s reaction to the riots.
