On Wednesday, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) struck back at a comment made by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) advocating for the end of the separation of church and state.
Kinzinger’s criticism comes after Boebert spoke at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colorado. Boebert stated that she was “tired” of the separation between church and state. She also claimed that the framers of the constitution never intended the separation. “It means nothing like they say it does,” she said.
Her comments were made during a preaching session with members of the Cornerstone Christian Center, who featured her as a guest speaker.
“I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk — that’s not in the Constitution,” Boebert said to a roar of applause. “It was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like they say it does.”

“The church is supposed to direct the government,” she continued. “The government is not supposed to direct the church.”
Kinzinger, a Christian, bashed Boebert’s extremist comments calling her comments like the “Christian Taliban.”
“There is no difference between this and the Taliban. We must oppose the Christian Taliban. I say this as a Christian,” Kinzinger wrote.
The First Amendment says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”
Boebert’s rhetoric is a part of a more significant movement to erode the separation between church and state.
In a recent Supreme Court ruling, the court sided with a high school coach, which allowed him to pray on the 50-yard line. In another ruling, the court allowed states to fund religious schools.
