GOP Rep. Ken Buck Says He’s Received Four Death Threats Since Opposing Jordan For Speaker

Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colorado) is the most recent member of Congress who has reported receiving death threats connected to the current House Republican fiasco over selecting a new speaker.

Buck said his office received four death threats regarding his refusal to support Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

He voted for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota) in both ballots last week.

“Right now is this constant barrage of phone calls, we have — I have six full-time people answering the phones,” he told reporters.

Buck said that out of the 20,000 messages he’s received, “so far I’ve had four death threats.”

He also mentioned that he lost his office space in his district because his landlord disagreed with his decision not to vote for Jordan.

“I’ve been evicted from my office in Colorado. I have notice of an eviction because the landlord is mad with my voting record on the speaker issue,” said Jordan. “And everybody in the conference is getting this. Family members have been approached and threatened. All kinds of things are going on. There’s going to be some tension.”

Buck is not the only one who has received threats.

Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Drew Ferguson (R-Georgia) and Don Bacon (R-Nebraska) reported getting similar messages.

Nearly 22 Republicans voted against Jordan in the second speaker vote on Wednesday, adding two more votes than his first ballot.

Jordan failed in his third attempt on Friday and the House GOP caucus withdrew him as their nominee by the afternoon.
