United States Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California), a former dairy farmer who more than once sued a Twitter cow bearing his name for making fun of him, is retiring from Congress, according to multiple news outlets.
“Devin Nunes is retiring. He was in line to be Ways and Means chairman in the House Republican majority He is ‘rumored’ to be taking a job with the Trump media startup,” Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman tweeted on Monday.
In addition to his entanglements with online livestock, Nunes, the ranking Republican member of the powerful House Intelligence Committee, has been a stalwart supporter of former President Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Nunes was among the cadre of GOP lawmakers who, while frenzied Trump supporters laid siege to the Capitol at Trump’s behest on January 6, voted against certifying President Joe Biden‘s victory.

Nunes, who joined Congress in 2003, was an emphatically loud defender of Trump during the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into Trump’s 2016 campaign’s suspected illicit ties to Russia.
Nunes has also filed numerous lawsuits against NBC, CNN, The Washington Post, Esquire, McClatchy and MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, whom he claimed earlier this year defamed him by not asking him for a comment on a story.
“MSNBC and Maddow harbor an institutional hostility, hatred, extreme bias, spite and ill-will towards plaintiff due to plaintiff’s emergence as the most prominent skeptic in Congress of Maddow’s marquee news narrative from 2017 to 2019: that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to hack the 2016 presidential elections,” attorneys for Nunes stated in their complaint, which demanded restitution for “insult, pain, embarrassment, humiliation, mental suffering and injury to his reputation.”
