GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s Family Calls Him A ‘Devil’s Army’ Member After Trump Conviction Vote

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) received a letter from his family disowning him after his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.

“Oh my, what a disappointment you are to us and to God!” wrote Kinzinger’s family. The letter, dated January 8, came after Kinzinger’s call for Trump to be removed via the 25th amendment. “It is now most embarrassing to us that we are related to you,” continued Kinzinger’s family. “You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name!”

Kinzinger spoke with CNN’s David Axelrod in January saying he is willing to lose his seat to vote for Trump’s impeachment.

“I did it knowing full well it could very well be terminal to my career,” Kinzinger said. “But I also knew that I couldn’t live with myself having, you know, try to just protect it and just felt like the one time I was called to do a really tough duty, I didn’t do it.”

Several members of Kinzinger’s Illinois family then jointly wrote the letter, mailing it to the congressman’s father, saying that they have now disowned him.

“My dad’s cousins sent me a petition – a certified letter – saying they disowned me because I’m in ‘the devil’s army’ now,” Kinzinger said. “It’s been crazy, when you have friends – that you thought were good friends that would love you no matter what – that don’t.”

When asked for an additional comment, Kinzinger told the New York Times that he holds “nothing against them, but I have zero desire or feel the need to reach out and repair that. That is 100% on them to reach out and repair, and quite honestly, I don’t care if they do or not.”
