WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 05: Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) (C) joins a group of bipartisan members of Congress from Texas to push for the House of Representatives to pass the U.S. Mexico Canada trade agreement during a news conference outside the U.S. Capitol December 05, 2019 in Washington, DC. Citing the economic benefits to their state, Republicans and Democrats from Texas called on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to bring the USMCA to a vote before the end of the year. Republican presidential candidate Will Hurd said that some GOP voters believe Donald Trump is “boring.” The former Texas representative argued that Trump limits the content of the speeches he makes on the campaign trail.
“I’m in New Hampshire, a lot of people are saying that they think Donald Trump is boring, and he’s talking about the same things,” said Hurd on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “He’s looking backward. He’s not looking forward.”
“And these are people that have voted for Donald Trump twice, and they recognize that he has so much baggage,” Hurd continued. “They also recognize that you shouldn’t keep secrets in your hotel, and by doing that, you just spit in the face of the men and women that are putting themselves in harm’s way every single day and every single night keeping us safe.”

Hurd is running as a moderate Republican and has established himself as a critic of the former president, who is currently the party’s presidential frontrunner. While he is not projected to make it very far in the race, Hurd has tried to divert attention away from Trump in an effort to refocus the Republican party.
In order to qualify for debate season, all presidential candidates must sign a Republican National Committee loyalty pledge to back the eventual nominee for their party. Hurd has refused to sign this pledge in anticipation that Trump will win the nomination.
