In a striking finding, more than net one million voters have switched their registration to the GOP. The change is mostly from suburban swing voters who helped Democrats win critical elections in past decades. Republicans gained around 1.6 million switchers, while Democrats saw 600,000 new voters.
The report shows a substantial shift in voters’ political leanings since 2020.
The data reports the switch mainly comes from suburbanites all across the country. Notable cities include Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Raleigh, North Carolina, Augusta, Georgia and Des Moines, Iowa.
In their study, The Associated Press surveyed more than 1.7 million voters across 42 states over the last 12 months.

In an article in the National Review, Nate Hochman was skeptical of the findings.
“How many of those voters — particularly the suburban women who delivered pivotal races for Democrats in 2018 and 2020 — will switch back to the Democratic Party in the wake of Dobbs?” Hochman stated. “More than zero, probably. Others may stay home. But at least in the House of Representatives, it won’t be enough. A red wave is coming — that much is more or less baked into the cake. At this point, the only question is: How big?”
The news comes as the November midterms inch closer and closer. With critical races expected for the fall, the findings should come as a warning for Democrats.
RNC chairman Ronna McDaniel said during an interview that the data shows voters are fed up with Democratic policies.
“Biden and Democrats are woefully out of touch with the American people, and that’s why voters are flocking to the Republican Party in droves,” she stated.
