GOP Donor Fred Eshelman Wants A Refund For Millions In ‘Stop The Steal’ Donations

GOP megadonor Fred Eshelman, who gave $2.5 million to True the Vote, a group that investigates voter fraud, wants his money back.

Eshelman said that his decision to donate to the organization was based on the “noise around cities like Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Philadelphia” during the 2020 presidential election.

“I wanted to determine if this was legit,” he said. “Can we find a real smoking gun?”

However, despite the organization’s efforts, the operation to investigate voter fraud in the election was largely unsuccessful. True the Vote offered Eshelman a $1 million refund, resulting in the donor filing two lawsuits.

He has since withdrawn his federal suit. However, Eshelman is going forward with another lawsuit in a Texas state court. Eshelman claims that the organization was not transparent about how his money would be used. He has not yet received the remainder of his donation back.

Eshelman recently told the Washington Post that while he believes there was “some misbehavior” involved in the election, he remains unsure whether or not that “misbehavior” would have “risen to a degree that would change the electoral outcome.”
