Bill Weld in June 2016
President Donald Trump swept the New Hampshire Republican primary on Tuesday, but his GOP challenger, former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld managed to secure just under 10% of the vote.
Trump received 85.5% of the vote and all 22 delegates, but Weld’s 9.1% he garnered was far higher than expected. Other candidates and write-ins totaled just over 5%.
Weld performed significantly better than in Iowa, where he received just 1.3%.
“I’m going to declare that I’ve exceeded expectations no matter what,” Weld said Tuesday.
