Glenn Beck Suggests Sending Older Americans Back To Work: “I’d Rather Die Than Kill The Country”

Right-wing talk show host Glenn Beck told viewers of his BlazeTV program that he would prefer “all of us over 50” to go back to work in order to  “keep this economy going and working,” even if it means risking the lives of those who are more vulnerable to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

“I would rather have my children stay home and all of us who are over 50 go in and keep this economy going and working,” Beck said. “Even if we all get sick, I’d rather die than kill the country.”

Beck added, “‘Cause it’s not the economy that’s dying — it’s the country.” However, he’s not the only conservative to suggest this.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Monday, “If that’s the exchange, I’m all in. And that doesn’t make me noble or brave of anything like that. I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me — I have six grandchildren — that’s what we all care about. And what we love more than anything are those children. And I want to live smart and see through this, but I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed.”

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman also suggested something similar on the Sunday paper, saying, either we let many of us get the coronavirus, recover and get back to work — while doing our utmost to protect those most vulnerable to being killed by it. Or, we shut down for months to try to save everyone everywhere from this virus — no matter their risk profile — and kill many people by other means, kill our economy and maybe kill our future.”

Additionally, Beck also criticized the stimulus bill as a “Green New Deal” being forced on Americans by Democrats. “I sincerely hope that we are not at a place as Americans to where we are going to let the Democrats jam down the Green New Deal because we are at home panicked,” Beck told his audience. “I want to have a frank conversation with you and ask you where you stand.”
