The mother and partner of deceased Capitol officer Brian Sicknick and another officer who was injured during the Capitol riot on January 6 met Republican senators Thursday to discuss the support for the proposed bipartisan commission to probe the Capitol riot.
Sicknick suffered from a stroke and died the next day due to his response to the riot.
Senate Republicans were poised to block a bill that would create a bipartisan commission that would investigate the events during the riot. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said Thursday that the investigation will not be helpful in finding out what happened during the riot
Other Republican senators complained that the commission is part of a vendetta against former President Donald Trump.

Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Brian Sicknick, said Thursday that she is furious to see the Republican senators reject the commission. “Not having a January 6 Commission to look into exactly what occurred is a slap in the faces of all the officers who did their jobs that day,” Gladys Sicknick said in a statement. “I suggest that all Congressmen and Senators who are against this Bill visit my son’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery and, while there, think about what their hurtful decisions will do to those officers who will be there for them going forward. Putting politics aside, wouldn’t they want to know the truth of what happened on January 6? If not, they do not deserve to have the jobs they were elected to do.”
