Atlanta-area District Attorney Fani Willis hand-delivered letters to multiple local sheriffs, warning that impending criminal charges against former President Donald Trump and his associates could be announced this summer.
In the letters given to Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum and the director of the Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency Matthew Kallmyer, Willis asked the agencies to be prepared for “heightened security.”
Willis, who said in January that charging announcements were “imminent,” told the agencies that possible criminal indictments against Trump could be announced between July 11 and September 1.
“Please accept this correspondence as notice to allow you sufficient time to prepare the Sheriff’s Office and coordinate with local, state and federal agencies to ensure that our law enforcement community is ready to protect the public,” Willis said in a letter.

Willis has been looking into allegations of election interference in the 2020 election. Part of Willis’ investigation includes Trump’s famous call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Trump pled for the Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes.”
Willis also investigated 16 Republicans who took part in an alternate elector scheme.
Georgia’s potential criminal indictment comes on the heels of a 34-count indictment against Trump in New York. Trump was charged with “falsifying business records” while paying off multiple people to cover up sex scandals during the 2016 election.
