Georgia DA Fani Willis Asks For FBI Security Help After Trump Speech

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is investigating former President Donald Trump for possible criminal activity affecting Georgia’s 2020 election, asked the FBI for a security-risk assessment after Trump’s speech in Texas over the weekend.

In the speech, Trump called for “the biggest protest we have ever had” if prosecutors investigating him do anything “illegal.”

“If these radical, vicious, racist prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we are going to have in this country the biggest protest we have ever had in Washington, D.C., in New York, in Atlanta and elsewhere because our country and our elections are corrupt,” he said during the rally in Conroe, Texas on Saturday.

Willis asked for a security-risk assessment on the city’s courthouse and a nearby government building. In her letter, Willis cited rhetoric from Trump being the reason for her request.

“We must work together to keep the public safe and ensure that we do not have a tragedy in Atlanta similar to what happened at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021,” Willis wrote.

In his speech, Trump also suggested that he would pardon the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters if he were to run in 2024 and win a second term in the White House. The rioters stormed the Capitol to stop the certification of President Joe Biden‘s win in the 2020 election.

Willis is investigating a phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump told Raffensperger to “find” the votes to overturn Georgia’s election results.

“I felt then — and still believe today — that this was a threat,” Raffensperger wrote in his book Integrity Counts. “Others obviously thought so, too, because some of Trump’s more radical followers have responded as if it was their duty to carry out this threat.”
