Georgia D.A. Fani Willis Says Decision On Indicting Trump Is ‘Imminent’

Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis announced

that the special grand jury on the case has recommended indicting former President Donald Trump and those close to him for their role in influencing 2020 election results in Georgia.

Willis said her decision on whether or not to follow the recommendation is “imminent,” and asked Judge Robert McBurney to hold off on ordering the findings of the investigation to be publicized until she comes to a verdict.

“We want to make sure that everyone is treated fairly, and we think for future defendants to be treated fairly it’s not appropriate at this time to have this report released,” Willis told McBurney.

Trump will become the first U.S. president in history to be indicted if Willis’ office files criminal charges against him.

For the past year, Willis’ office has been investigating Trump and his allies. The probe surrounds a January 2, 2021, phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump called on Raffensperger to “find the votes” to overturn the election results in The Peach State. The investigation also looked into a group of 16 Republicans who took part in an alternate elector scheme.

When Willis was granted a special grand jury last January, it marked a turning point in the case by allowing the issuing of subpoenas to get the testimonies of Trump allies who refused to speak voluntarily. Some of these individuals included Raffensperger, Trump attorneys John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
