Georgia 2020 Election Investigation Names Rudy Giuliani As A ‘Criminal Target’

Rudy Giuliani, a former personal attorney of Donald Trump, was alerted on Monday that he is a target in the criminal investigation in Fulton County, Georgia, into Trump and his allies’ possible efforts to manipulate the 2020 election in Georgia.

Giuliani has been a longtime and outspoken supporter of Trump’s false allegations of widespread election fraud, especially in Georgia which is a state Trump lost to President Joe Biden by just 12,000 votes.

The former New York City mayor is scheduled to testify before a special grand jury later this week. His lawyer, Robert Costello, has said that Giuliani will refrain from discussing his relationship with Trump under attorney-client privilege.

While the investigation’s special grand jury only has the power to suggest criminal prosecution, a different grand jury could bring charges.

Atlanta-area District Attorney Fani Willis opened the investigation last year. The probe is centered around a January 2, 2021 phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump prodded Raffensperger to “find the votes” to overturn the election.

Trump maintains that he didn’t say anything wrong in the call, and called Willis’ probe a “political witchhunt.”

Willis is trying to find out if there was any criminal interference by Trump or his team related to voter fraud in Georgia during the 2020 election.
