George P. Bush called former President Donald Trump “the center of the Republican Party” in an interview with Fox News.
For the second time in recent months, Bush has spoken publically about his support for Trump. Bush officially announced his candidacy for Texas attorney general in 2022 in early June, against incumbent and Trump ally, Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Paxton, still loyal to the former President, led lawsuits in four states against the 2020 election results, pushing the narrative that Trump had won, and even spoke at the Stop the Steal rally on January 6, ahead of the riots.

In the interview, Bush stated: “When you look at my policies, I’m all about ‘America First. Trump is the center of the Republican Party. I’m my own man, I support him and we need to carry on that legacy and capture the lightning that he brought to the Republican Party so that we can help all of our fellow Republicans down-ballot.”
This is especially surprising considering that Bush’s father, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), was a constant target of attacks against Trump during the 2016 presidential primaries. Trump has repeatedly targeted members of the Bush family.
Still, Bush reminded Fox how he was “one of the first statewide elected officials to come out and support” Trump’s bid for the White House in 2016.
