George H.W. Bush’s Touching Last Words To Son George W. Bush: “I Love You Too!”

Former President George H.W. Bush shared some touching last words with his son before his death on Friday.

A few hours before the former president passed away on Friday in his home in Houston, President H.W. Bush shared a tphone call with his son, former president and namesake, George W. Bush.

The son told his father that he loved him and that he was a “wonderful dad.”

“I love you, too,” the 41st president told his son from his deathbed.

The two had shared a close relationship, a father-son bond forged outside the realm of politics.

“First and foremost, he was a great father,” George W. Bush said during a sit-down interview with his daughter, Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager, and his father.

“He set the boundaries,” Bush Jr. said of his childhood relationship with his father. “But he was never one to try to impose his will on us. Because of the way he raised all of us, we admired him greatly.”

Their shared experience in politics and the presidency, facing the harsh criticism and attacks that come with the nation’s highest office, brought the two closer together.

“It made me angry,” the 43rd president said, commenting on how it felt to hear his father criticized during his presidency.

“But actually it helped thicken my hide for when I became president because criticism of my dad was a heck of a lot more difficult for me to handle than criticism of me,” Bush  added.

Bush Sr. echoed his son’s sentiments during that interview, saying, “When it’s your own son, it’s hard to take.”
