Fox Cancels Top Show ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight’ After Filing Of Billion-Dollar Smartmatic Lawsuit

Fox Business confirmed on Friday that it would cancel anchor Lou Dobbs‘ show after a defamation lawsuit was filed against the network and newsman.

Fox Business Tonight, a new program starting on Monday and featuring Jackie DeAngelis and David Asman, will replace Dobbs’ showtime.

Similar to other news organizations, Fox announced in October that it would rearrange its lineup after the presidential election.

“As we said in October, FOX News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on FOX Business – this is part of those planned changes. A new 5 PM program will be announced in the near future,” a Fox spokesperson said in a statement.

Dobbs’ firing follows the news that voting software company, Smartmatic, on Thursday had filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox Corporation and named Dobbs as a defendant.

The company alleged that the network had spread misinformation about election security concerning former President Donald Trump‘s false claims that the 2020 general election was stolen from him.

Fox Corporation dismissed the lawsuit’s allegations in a statement on Thursday, saying that it was “committed to providing the full context of every story with in-depth reporting and clear opinion. We are proud of our 2020 election coverage and will vigorously defend against this meritless lawsuit in court.”
