Former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) was assaulted and robbed in Oakland, California on Monday, a tweet from her office said.
According to the tweet, the 80-year-old politician was “pushed in the back” by her assailant who “stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car.”
Boxer was not seriously injured.
The Oakland Police Department reported on Monday that a victim (presumably Boxer) was walking on the 300 block of 3rd Street in Oakland’s Jack London neighborhood when she was approached by her assailant.

Oakland Police Department’s robbery section is currently investigating the incident.
Boxer told local TV station KPIX: “I’m very saddened by this experience because here is a grandma alone, on her phone, and two young people attacked. I’m not hurt physically at all. I’m just shook up.”
Boxer said that her attacker and the driver both appeared to be under the age of 18.
According to Boxer, her attacker “pushed [her] very hard” and grabbed her phone before she fell.
Boxer asked her assailants: “Why would you do this to a grandma?”
Boxer hopes “he has some guilt.”
