The former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio has asked President-elect Donald Trump to pardon him for his seditious conspiracy conviction for the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Tarrio was convicted of helping organize the attack on the Capitol. The Proud Boys leader couldn’t be at the Capitol because he was banned from the city for his role in burning a stolen Black Lives Matter banner but was accused of orchestrating the violence from a hotel room in Virginia.
For the attack on the Capitol, U.S. District Judge Tim Kelly, a Trump appointee, sentenced Tarrio to 22 years in prison.
Tarrio is now asking Trump for a full pardon, arguing the Biden administration was targeting him for his political views.

Prosecutors described him as the leader behind hundreds of violent Proud Boys who assembled in Washington in response to Trump’s call for a protest.
Many of Tarrio’s top lieutenants, including Dominic Pezzola, were at the front of the mob as it ruptured police lines and led the rioters.
Tarrio has said that he is “deathly afraid” of life in prison.
