Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) has officially been charged with a misdemeanor sex offense.
The filing accuses Cuomo of groping a woman under her blouse, which constitutes a “sex crime” according to New York state courts spokesman Lucian Chalfen.
Cuomo’s attorney, Rita Glavin, told local media outlets that her client is innocent and that Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple‘s handling of the case is “not professional law enforcement; this is politics.”
Glavin added: “[He] didn’t even tell the district attorney what he was doing.”

Albany County District Attorney David Soares issued a statement about Apple’s actions: “Like the rest of the public, we were surprised to learn today that a criminal complaint was filed in Albany City Court by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office against Andrew Cuomo.”
The official complaint alleges that Cuomo engaged in “forcible touching” on Dec. 7, 2020. Cuomo allegedly “[placed] his hand under the blouse shirt of the victim…and onto her intimate body part” at the governor’s Executive Mansion.
Cuomo also reportedly fondled the woman’s breast “for purposes of degrading and gratifying his sexual desires.”
Cuomo is expected to be arrested this week.
