General Mark Milley, who served as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retired last year after four decades of military service to the United States. In his retirement speech, he said, “We don’t take an oath to a king, or a queen, to a tyrant or dictator – or wannabe dictator.”
Milley didn’t specify who he was talking about in his speech, but most assumed he was referring to former President Donald Trump.
Now, journalist Bob Woodward writes in his new book that Milley described Trump as “a fascist” and “the most dangerous person to the country.”
Milley’s remarks come from first-hand experience with Trump when he was handpicked to serve as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. In this role, Milley worked with the president for over a year.

Milley told Woodward that he feared a court martial in another Trump term. These concerns stem from Trump’s previous efforts to have retired military leaders court-martialed for saying things about him that he didn’t like. Trump has targeted Milley on social media, calling him “an idiot” and falsely accusing him of committing a treasonous act.
Other former Trump White House employees have spoken out about the former president’s character. His former secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, called him “a moron,” and his former White House chief of staff, John Kelly, said he has “no regard for the the law.”
