Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger announced his endorsement for President Joe Biden.
The GOP representative and military pilot has criticized former President Donald Trump, especially in reference to Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6 attacks on the Capitol.
In a video endorsement posted to X, Kinzinger called Trump “a direct threat to every fundamental American value” and warned that Trump would “hurt anyone or anything in pursuit of power.”
Kinzinger became known as one of the two Republicans who served on the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attacks. He also voted to impeach Trump for his involvement and urged the GOP to change course.

Trump has called for the prosecution of Kinzinger due to his involvement on the House committee, as well as publicly celebrating when Kinzinger did not run for reelection in 2022.
While speaking about Biden, Kinzinger discussed that he never expected to endorse a Democratic president. Kinzinger had voted for Trump during the 2020 election.
“While I certainly don’t agree with President Biden on everything, and I never thought I’d be endorsing a Democrat for president, I know that he will always protect the very thing that makes America the best country in the world: our democracy,” Kinzinger said.
This endorsement comes the night before the presidential debate and is considered the most high-profile endorsement of a Republican supporting Biden.
Biden posted to X to thank Kinzinger for his support, writing that he was valuing his country over his party.
Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, also supported Kinzinger in a statement.
“Congressman Kinzinger represents the countless Americans that Donald Trump’s Republican Party have left behind,” she said. “Those Americans have a home in President Biden’s coalition, and our campaign knows that we need to show up and earn their support.”
More high-profile Republican endorsements for Biden are anticipated as the election gets closer.
