Former Attorney General William Barr who served under President Donald Trump until December accused Trump of “betrayal of his office and supporters.”
Since his resignation as Attorney General, Barr has become increasingly critical toward Trump. During the storming of the Capitol building Wednesday afternoon, Barr released a statement through a spokesperson who said, “The violence at the Capitol Building is outrageous and despicable,” but did not directly mention the president.
Barr’s statement Thursday places blame squarely with Trump, “Orchestrating a mob to pressure Congress is inexcusable,” he told Politico.
Barr, who was long-considered a Trump loyalist, spoke to Congress in November debunking claims of widespread voter fraud that Trump was actively spreading. Trump soon after announced Barr’s resignation on Twitter.
