Forget Jesus, Donald Trump Says He Is ‘The Chosen One’ & ‘King Of Israel’

Donald Trump has claimed many things about himself, but this week’s brags dwarf those made previously. During a question-and-answer session with reporters on Wednesday, Trump turned heavenward and declared himself to be “The Chosen One.”

The comment was intended as a joke, made in defense of the president’s position that the trade war with China should have been undertaken by past administrations, but only he was willing to do so. Even so, it comes in the wake of other, less benign statements made earlier this week.

In discussing Israel’s decision to block Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from entering Israel, Trump offered his opinion that “any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat… shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” Asked Wednesday to clarify to whom Jews were being disloyal, Trump answered, “to Israel.”

In response to the storm of condemnations from politicians and public figures which followed that comment, Trump tried to spin the narrative that he and his administration have been the best for Israel in many ways. His list included three items – recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel, moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and weakening Iran – all of which Trump seems to believe have garnered him high status in Israel.

To boast this status, and to distract from accusations of anti-Semitism, Trump shared a Twitter post from Wayne Allyn Root, an evangelical Christian, who claims that “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world… the Jewish people in Israel love him… like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God.” American Jews who vote Democratic “don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore.”

The Chosen One seems like a comparably light title compared to King of Israel and the second coming of God Himself, fitting for a man as renown for his humility as Trump.

Trump’s various claims since the beginning of his presidency have never failed to garner eye-rolls and laughs. He bragged to have had record-breaking crowds at his inauguration, though they were in fact visibly much smaller than even his predecessor’s. He also dubiously claimed to have appointed more judges than any president since Washington.

Whatever divine powers Trump may have, he should muster them for more lofty purposes than a trade war with China. Perhaps purchasing Greenland would be more attainable.
