Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Rejects Poll Results Showing Trump Beating Him For GOP Presidential Nomination

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) rejected the results of a new poll finding that he is trailing Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

The NBC News poll found that DeSantis is losing support, as he went from 31% in April to 22% now. Trump, on the other hand, proved to be growing in popularity amongst voters, with 51% of respondents showing support for the former president.

These results come after Trump was arrested and arraigned at the Miami federal courthouse, where he pled not guilty to 37 counts of willful retention of national defense information. Despite his impending legal woes, GOP voters have remained loyal to the M.A.G.A. leader.

DeSantis said that naming Trump the nominee this early in the electoral cycle does not make s, and seems to be counting on the swing states to give him a boost.

“I think if you look [at] the swing states, Biden beats Trump in the swing states and I beat Biden handily in the swing states, that’s ultimately the election right there,” said DeSantis.

In a hypothetical matchup between DeSantis and President Joe Biden, 50% of voters in swing states said that they would choose DeSantis. This gave him a slight edge over Trump, as he received support from 46% of these voters when placed in the same scenario. Both candidates, however, still lost against Biden.

“I’ve grown to think at the end of the day, you know, this is a marathon, not a sprint,” said DeSantis.
