Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said in a statement Friday that he would order all of his state’s flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of radio host Rush Limbaugh, who died Wednesday of late stage lung cancer.
“I know they’re still figuring out arrangements. But what we do when there’s things of this magnitude, once the date of internment for Rush is announced, we’re going to be lowering the flags to half-staff,” said DeSantis near Limbaugh’s home in Palm Beach.
“But [DeSantis] had no words for Congressman John Lewis,” said Florida Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), the state’s highest ranking Democrat, referring to the death last year of the civil rights icon.

Several prominent Republicans including former President George W. Bush made statements honoring Limbaugh after his death. “While he was brash, at times controversial, and always opinionated, he spoke his mind as a voice for millions of Americans and approached each day with gusto,” said Bush.
Watchdog group Media Matters compiled several dozen of Limbaugh’s most controversial and moments in his radio career, mirroring concerns like Fried’s.
