Federal Judges Association To Hold Emergency Meeting On Trump’s Interference In Stone’s Case

Leaders from the Federal Judges Association will assemble Wednesday in an emergency meeting to address growing concerns over President Donald Trump‘s and Attorney General William Barr‘s recent intervention in the Roger Stone case.

Stone is a political operative and longtime confidant of Trump, who was charged with obstruction of Congress, lying to Congress and witness tampering.

The charges stemmed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s two-year Russian election interference probe. DOJ prosecutors had recommended 7-to-9 years in prison for Stone.

The emergency meeting will revolve around the Justice Department’s recent decision to recommended less prison time for Stone. The meeting will address the mistreatment of federal judges, namely the specific and personal attacks launched against them by the president..

Barr has ordered a review of several high-profile cases, which includes National Security Adviser Michael Flynn‘s case.

Barr’s move prompted over 2000 Justice Department officials to sign a statement, which calls on him to resign.

Three prosecutors from the Stone case resigned and another left the Justice Department altogether, after Trump called the recommendation, “Disgraceful!” and “[a] horrible and very unfair situation,” on Twitter.

Following the Justice Department’s reversal, Trump praised Barr on Twitter for taking charge of the case.

Trump also took another social media jab at the federal prosecutor’s from the case, calling them “rogue prosecutors.”
